Lonoke County Man Arrested After Stolen Bus Chase Ends in North Little Rock Rail Yard
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A Lonoke County man was taken into custody by Arkansas State Police (ASP) on Thursday morning following a dramatic chase involving a stolen motorcoach bus, which ended in a North Little Rock rail yard.
The incident began around 7:40 a.m. on August 29, when 29-year-old Elvin Richard allegedly stole the bus from Little Rock. Richard led troopers on a pursuit along Interstate 40 before turning onto Highway 161 and eventually veering onto railroad tracks, according to authorities.
The bus, which was reported stolen at approximately 3 a.m., was driven into the Union Pacific Rail Yard Terminal, located at 1020 West Bethany in North Little Rock. ASP troopers managed to bring the chase to a close by disabling the bus, shooting out its tires.
Richard was apprehended without injury and transferred to the custody of the Little Rock Police Department. He was later transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center.
ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division has launched an inquiry into the officer-involved shooting, while the Little Rock Police Department is leading the investigation into the theft of the bus. No injuries were reported during the incident.
